Welcome to my new site, inspired by my desire to make a living doing what I love the most … remote, adventurous canoe expeditions. Living as simply as I can and as close to nature as possible. That means fishing and foraging for food where possible, cooking on open fires and learning as many traditional skills as I can.
ABOUT
My name is Phil Harwood and I’ve spent most of my adult life seeking out adventure and challenge in a myriad of environments, from steaming jungles to arctic wastes, from wilderness rivers to remote coastlines and mountains. I especially love the journeying aspect of paddling expeditions and in 2008 became the first person to canoe the Congo River in Central Africa source to sea from the true source in North Eastern Zambia. It took me 5 months. I wrote a book and made a film about the trip which I hope to sell on this website soon.
I’ve acquired a number of water and land based qualifications over the years, and have worked as a Ski-Guide, Royal Marine Commando, Overland Expedition Leader in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and for the last 18 years Ive worked as an Adventure Training Instructor and Development Tutor. I currently work as a Resilience Training Instructor at a Military University in the Middle East.
I hope to gradually grow this website and start running courses and expeditions in 2025 … so watch this space!
